365 Photo Project: Day 59

Just for fun - a glass toadstool. I saw this at a friend's house tonight.

Two months complete! :)

Our knife block, in macro.

365 Photo Project: Day 56

We went to The Melting Pot last night. The food was awesome! My photo didn't turn out the way I'd wanted it to, because we were in a teeny booth with just about no light. That's okay, though - the food was amazing. :)

365 Photo Project: Day 55

Today is our 8th anniversary. 8 years ago, we trudged through the snow to a judge's office in Grand Forks (they didn't do weddings at the courthouse). We said our vows and then we all went out to Applebee's afterward. It wasn't supposed to be our actual wedding... we were going to have a ceremony later, but it just never worked out that way. I did have a bouquet of red roses, though... and today, Justin gave me eight beautiful red roses - one for each year we've been married.

Justin, being incredibly goofy. He doesn't like me taking his picture. :)

365 Photo Project: Day 52

Daddy was home today, so we just spent some time together and made sure we got naps. It was a quiet President's Day.

365 Photo Project: Day 51

We went to the National Aquarium in DC today. We had a great time! Last night I started playing with the idea of going in to DC, maybe the zoo or something. Finally decided pretty late last night to do the aquarium.

When I woke up, I did NOT feel motivated, but I knew Landon had to get out of the house, so I started to get ready and posted on Facebook that we were going. I'd wanted to get some friends together, but figured it was too short-notice, so didn't call anyone. Within a half hour or so, F had called me because A had seen my post on Facebook. We ended up getting a group of four adults and six kids to go in together and it was great. Much better than going alone!

Landon had a great time. He was such a good boy, all day. He could not get enough of the fishies at the aquarium. Afterward, we had lunch and saw the dinosaurs and mammals at the American Museum of Natural History, and he enjoyed that, too. I love that he is finally at the age where he enjoys these outings. Kelsey was great, but just hung out in the Ergo or stroller most of the day. One day, she'll get excited over these outings, too!

Without further ado...

365 Photo Project: Day 50

We didn't do much today (I'm sensing a pattern on the weekends), but we did go outside! Here's my unwilling model...

365 Photo Project: Day 48

I went outside for a few minutes and when I came back, Xena was waiting for me.

365 Photo Project: Day 46

Macro of a dead leaf that Landon brought into the house. I'd planning on taking the kids outside so I could get a different shot, but Landon had an accident and it was dark by the time I'd gotten him cleaned up. Maybe tomorrow night!

Perfect

Tonight, nearing bedtime, Landon was starting to get cranky and Kelsey was starting to get fussy. For some reason, instead of going right upstairs to prepare for bed, I turned on some music and we danced. Daddy was watching us, amused. Landon was breakdancing on the floor, and I was swaying Kelsey around on my hips, much to her delight.

Then the words of the song sank in.
"Our lives are made in these small hours... these little wonders, these twists and turns of fate. Time falls away, but these small hours, these small hours still remain."
-- Little Wonders by Rob Thomas

It was just so perfect. The moment, albeit one that will really have little impact on our lives years from now, was like so many other moments that make our life. Life isn't all grand moments that will become detailed memories. The little moments that you generally don't remember are what define us. Who we are when the world isn't watching. We're a family, together. That matters.

It wasn't lost on me tonight. That's all.

365 Photo Project: Day 41

I feel like crud today, so you're subjected to another picture from the Metro. Here's the train screaming into Navy Yard station.

365 Photo Project: Day 40

The military mounted this fire extinguisher right in the middle of our kitchen. I hardly notice it anymore - actually, sometimes I worry that I'd forget about it should a fire ever actually happen. At any rate, my macro lens reveals everything... even the dust. :-/

365 Photo Project: Day 39

One of my favorite parts of the day... evening, after dinner but before bed... Landon and Kelsey play together. It is so sweet.

A few weeks ago I ordered Kelsey a pair of Robeez soft-soled bunny baby boots from The Mini Social. They finally arrived today and are so precious.

365 Photo Project: Day 33

Xena had her turn, now it's Misty's. My sweet kitty has been a part of my family since I was only 10 years old. She's 16 years old now, and I can't imagine not having her with me.

365 Photo Project: Day 32

First day of February! How is that even possible? Just for fun, I filled the kitchen sink with water, popped on my macro lens (oh, okay - it never left the camera), and played around with food coloring and bubbles.

365 Photo Project: Day 31

I made it to the end of the month! This is not easy, but I am enjoying it. Today is macro again - Landon's Hotwheels school bus!
